Hiragana is a phonetic lettering system. It can be used to represent the pronunciation of a Kanji as well as used alone as a character in writing. When Hiragana is used as a character on its own, it can be a segment of a word or a grammatical element in a sentence such as a particle. But in this video, I show you exactly how a simple Memory Palace that took only 5 minutes to create enabled me to memorize the Hiragana in 1.5 hours. This includes the diacritical marks. I then used the same Memory Palace to “build in” the Katakana. With a slight modification, I’ve started on memorizing 200 Kanji radicals.

Aug 05, 2011 · Kanji vs Hiragana Difference between Kanji and Hiragana is a must know fact if you are planning on learning Japanese. Before jumping to discussing the two terms, let’s have some background information.

The character is converted from the Hiragana from the Katakana and the Katakana to the Hiragana. Full-width Hiragana is convert into Katakana, and half-width katakana is convert into full-width hiragana.

Now, in theory, you could write everything in Japanese in hiragana (or, indeed, katakana); kanji aren’t necessary for grammar. But because there are no spaces in Japanese sentences kanji help visually break up the words making it much easier to read text.
